Tech Tips Alert: Microsoft Patch Conflicts With ZoneAlarm
Friday, July 11, 2008
A recent Microsoft patch has major conflicts with ZoneAlarm security software. After the Microsoft patch is installed (automatically for many), your Internet connection may not work.
If you use ZoneAlarm with Windows XP, the conflicting patch is MS08-037 from the July batch of updates, which shows up in your Add/Remove Programs as Windows XP Security Update KB951748.
ZoneAlarm has workarounds for those in this situation until Microsoft releases a corrected version of the patch.

Kinda related. Win XP updates sez that SP3 is ready to install on my machine [presently @ SP2]. Any word about SP3? Is is safe to load? Thanks.
It depends. At this point I am not yet installing Windows XP SP3 as part of my standard customer routine, but those who already have it via Automatic Updates seem to be doing okay with it, for the most part.
As always, be sure to do a backup before any major change to your computer. If you don't want to install SP3 yet, go to Control Panel, Automatic Updates, and set to "notify but don't download." Microsoft's started pushing SP3 out to consumers in earnest, so you are likely to receive this update if you take no action otherwise.
